Abstract: The underlying vision for the emerging wireless communication system is to enable communication with a person, at any time, at any place and in any form. During the past decade, a surge of research activities have been witnessed in the field of wireless communication due to a confluence of several factors. First, there has been an explosive increase in demand for tether less connectivity, driven so far mainly by cellular telephony but now eclipsed by wireless multimedia applications. Secondly, the dramatic progress in semiconductor technologies, digital switching techniques and digital signal processing algorithms has facilitated the employment of wireless communication in large scale. These trends are anticipated to continue at a greater pace during the next decade.
